We Consulted With The Police To Use Tesano Training Depot For Re-Collation – EC

The Electoral Commission (EC) has clarified that it consulted with the Ghana Police Service regarding the use of the Tesano Training Depot in Accra for the re-collation of results from some constituencies where security challenges hindered the completion of the process.

The Commission stated that the decision was made to ensure a safe and secure environment for the finalisation of results in areas where election officials faced significant security risks.

In a statement, the Commission emphasized that the selection of collation centres is done in consultation with the Police, ensuring that adequate security measures are in place.

However, it acknowledged that in some constituencies, security at collation centres had been insufficient, which led to the decision to relocate the re-collation process to the Tesano Training Depot.

The Commission explained that the move was prompted by the disruption of the collation process at the constituency level. Political party supporters had reportedly besieged some centres, subjecting election officials to attacks, intimidation, threats, and vandalism.

According to the EC, these circumstances made it impossible for officials to carry out their duties effectively and led to the need for alternative arrangements.

The Electoral Commission assured the public that the decision to relocate the re-collation process was solely based on security concerns.

The Commission affirmed its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process and the safety of election officials during the collation of results.
