Unidentified Youth Invade And Loot Offices At Ayawaso Municipal Assembly

Several offices at the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region were invaded on Monday, December 9 by some angry youth suspected to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The offices that were affected included the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).

The invaders reportedly looted several items, including laptops, and caused significant disruption. Also, they have allegedly destroyed photos of the president at the office.

The situation escalated when the invaders insisted that staff members should vacate the facility and hand over keys to them.

"We contacted the police, and when they arrived, they were able to identify one individual from the group. However, we still don’t know who he is," a staff member told Joy News' Collins Frimpong.

"For example, the finance office was clearly looted, although we can’t say for certain what was taken, we know that some desktop computers and air conditioners were stolen" the staff member alleged.

The agricultural office was also broken into, but no items were taken from there. In addition to electronics, other valuable equipment was stolen, including a concrete mixer, wheelbarrows, and two motorbikes meant for the assembly.

Two motorbikes intended for a government project were also stolen. "When they asked for the keys to the pickups and we couldn’t provide them, they left without the vehicles," the staff member added.

Though the identities of the attackers remain unclear, the staff member mentioned that some residents of the local community recognized them as youths from the area. "I’ve never seen them before," the staff member said, expressing concern about the incident.

As the investigation into the incident continues, local authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage and identify those responsible for the attack on the NADMO office.

Earlier, the national office of NADMO was also attacked where the youth broke some glasses and removed the photos of President Akufo-Addo and other individuals.

Some angry youth also stormed the Kaneshie terminal of the Metro Mass Transit where they attempted to tow a pick-up vehicle but were stopped.
