Mahama To Inaugurate Committee To Ensure He Meets 120-Day Social Contract

President-elect John Mahama has announced plans to inaugurate a committee soon, dedicated to ensuring he fulfils his 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.

This contract includes the "Operation Recover All Loot" (ORAL) initiative, which aims to combat corruption by investigating allegations, recovering misappropriated state resources, and prosecuting offenders.

The incoming president is optimistic about the move, stating, "We have carefully selected the things that we thought were achievable in 120 days."

"So we are going to work diligently to ensure that at the end of the 120 days, we can check each of them off. I will soon inaugurate a committee focused on achieving these goals."

"Under this, we have Operation Recover All Loot," he added.

Mr Mahama was speaking during a courtesy call paid to him by members of the Apostolic Fathers. He further emphasised his administration's commitment to enhancing accountability.

"We want to raise accountability to another level. It's in our constitution that we should uphold the principles of probity and accountability, so it’s a constitutional obligation for us to do so," he noted.

Mr Mahama further explained, "If you run your own private business, you can run it however you wish, but if a taxpayer places you in an office, which is paid for with taxpayers' money, you must be prepared to account for the trust they have placed in you."

He added that the 120-day agenda represents the "last chance to get things right".

While acknowledging that issues of corruption are not new to Ghana or the sub-region, he stressed the need to "work as quickly as possible to restore trust in our democracy".

The incoming NDC government is committed to fighting corruption at all levels in the country, ensuring that public officeholders do not steal state resources for personal gain at the expense of the masses.

The 120-day agenda marks the new government’s first step toward enhanced accountability.
