NPP Opens Nomination, Set To Elect New PC For Walewale On Sept. 8 After Court Ruling

Justin Kodua Frimpong, NPP General Secretary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially announced the timelines for the rerun of its parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency of the North East Region.

This follows a Tamale High Court order for a re-run of the parliamentary election initially won by Dr Mahama Tia Kabiru.

The incumbent MP who lost the initial primary by seven votes had alleged irregularities and subsequently went to court over the matter.

The irregularity was largely about claims that some persons voted in place of dead persons on the register, a claim which was established by the court.

In a statement signed by the NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Monday, September 2, he said nominations will be open from September 2 to September 5, 2024.

It added that the parliamentary primary will take place on  Sunday, September 8.

Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates are required to obtain nomination forms by paying a non-refundable application fee of GH3,000.00 via a banker's draft payable to the NPP National Headquarters in Accra.

To successfully file their nomination, candidates must pay a non-refundable filing fee of GH35,000.00, also in a banker's draft to the party's national headquarters.

However, women, youth (defined as individuals aged 18-40), and persons with disabilities (PWDs) will receive a 50% rebate on the filing fee, reducing their payment to GH17,500.00.

Candidates who participated in the previous general parliamentary primary and have already paid the filing fees are also exempted from paying again.
