2024 POLLS: NCCE Mfantseman Holds Inter-Party Dialogue Committee Meeting To Foster Peace

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has admonished political parties especially the youths to desist from act that will be detrimental to the peace of the country towards the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Ms. Judith Adomako-Ofosua, the Mfantseman Municipal Director of the Commission made the remark during an Inter-Party Dialogue Committee (IPDC) meeting aimed at sensitizing stakeholders on fostering peace before, during and after the December 7, 2024 general elections.

She highlighted that, the platform was centered on the Commission’s broader theme: “Together We Can Build Ghana, So Get Involved”, focusing on key issues such as bribery in politics, misinformation and disinformation, religious tolerance and electoral violence.

Ms. Ofosua emphasized the importance of ensuring peaceful polls stressing on the collective responsibilities of all Ghanaians to act in ways that will protect the peace we currently enjoyed.

The IPDC sought to identify early warning signals and serve as mediators among political parties on disagreements that have the potential to escalates into violence with active collaboration between the NCCE and key stakeholders including political parties, Electoral Commission, Security agencies, traditional authorities, youth, the district Assembly, faith base and identifiable groups, CHRAJ, women groups among others.

The Chairman for the Committee, Nana Ehuren Kobia VIII, Kontihen of Abeadze Traditional Council and Chief of Esiamotan admonished participants especially political parties to desist from acts of electoral violence such as defacing of posters, hate speech among others asserting that it could jeopardize the peace of the country.

Ms. Abigail Efua Rockson, the deputy Electoral Commission Officer for Mfantseman gave the assurance that her outfit was working assiduously through the electoral processes and with support of stakeholders to ensure peaceful elections in the Mfantseman Municipality.

Representatives from the political parties pledged their commitment and support to the committee and called on all stakeholders to work diligently to break the cycle of electoral violence to ensure equitable elections devoid of apprehension and acrimony.
