The Ghana Meteorological Agency has been exposed for allegedly purchasing 22 motorcycles valued at GH¢253,000 for GH¢1,656,000.

The Agency allegedly procured one motorcycle for GH¢75,252. However, research by broadcast journalist Johnnie Hughes shows that the cost of one royal motorcycle is estimated at GH¢11,000.

This disclosure, made by Johnnie Hughes on Accra-based 3FM and posted on X (formerly Twitter), aimed to audit the funds allocated and budgeted for the vehicles.

Hughes questioned the motives behind the purchases, alleging that there are issues of corruption within the agency.

He further revealed the agency’s intention to procure additional vehicles, including two 32-seater buses for staff, 8 cars for local travels, and 3 pickup trucks.

According to the report, the agency purchased the motorcycles to enable localized visits to distant out-stations.

The expose has sparked public outcry, with some Ghanaians calling for an investigation and audit into inflated budgets to ascertain the true costs of these vehicles.
