Ghana To Host Inaugural Meeting Of Women Chairpersons Of African Election Management Bodies



The Electoral Commission (EC) and the Executive Committee of the Association of African Election Authorities (AAEA) are set to host a delegation comprising women Chairpersons from eight Election Management Bodies (EMBs) in Africa.

This meeting aims to establish a continental network of Senior Electoral Administrators, while fostering peer support among women in Election Management Leadership in Africa.

The meeting is being held under the auspices of the United Nations Development Programme's Regional Service Centre for Africa and the United Nation's Electoral Assistance Division in collaboration with International IDEA, the Association of African Election Authorities and the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

According to a press release signed by the Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey, the event, which will be held on August 5 - 6, 2024, will host leaders of electoral bodies from Cape Verde, Liberia, Ethiopia, Malawi. Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The meeting will also review international and regional normative frameworks on women's political participation in Africa.
