In the lead-up to the December 7 general elections, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, spokesperson for the Bawumia campaign, has expressed optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will prevail despite a victory prediction for National Democratic Congress by Fitch Solutions.
Speaking on JoyNews Desk on Thursday, July 18, he emphasised that while the current state of the economy presents challenges, the NPP is committed to improving the economic conditions for Ghanaians.
Mr Aboagye pointed out that inflation has dropped from around 54% to 23%, indicating economic progress.
He stressed that the NPP is actively campaigning and working to demonstrate its commitment to improving the country's economic situation.
“As we speak, we are in the five northern regions campaigning. Until we get to the polls and ballot in December, we believe that we have a responsibility to ensure that the Ghanaian voter has a reason to vote for us. That is what we are doing,” he said.
Fitch Solutions' forecast indicates that 54 percent of respondents favour the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate John Mahama. Mike Kruiniger of Fitch Solutions highlighted that economic factors would significantly influence voter decisions.
In response to the forecast, NDC Communications Officer Sammy Gyamfi welcomed the prediction but emphasised that the party would not be complacent.
He stated that the NDC is determined to work hard to secure a resounding victory and rescue Ghana from what he described as the corrupt and inept Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government.
Gyamfi underlined the necessity for the NDC to remain vigilant and focused on their campaign efforts.
“We will not be complacent, we will not be excited about any poll however factual or credible that poll may be… We are not going to allow this to get to our head and get (us) complacent at all,” he said.
