The ministry laid the lease agreement between the government and Ashanti Bauxite Limited Company for the mining of bauxite in the Nyinahini Block 2 Area in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
It also laid a lease agreement between government and the Barari DV Ghana Limited for the exploitation of lithium at Ewoyaa in the Central Region.
The two agreements which were laid before the House by the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu on behalf of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, seek the approval of the legislature to mine the two minerals in the stated areas.
Subsequently, the Speaker, Alban Sumana Bagbin referred the agreement to the Committee on Lands and Natural Resources for consideration and report to the House.
Before the documents were laid, the Minority raised some concerns about the procedure, citing among other things, the need to not rush the approval of such critical projects.
