AG’s Statement On Ambulance Case Ruling Did Not Attack Any Judge – Alfred Tuah-Yeboah

Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah Yeboah has disagreed with claims that his superior, Godfred Yeboah Dame, is unsuitable to address lawyers at this year’s Ghana Bar Association (GBA) Conference.

Speaking to Joy News’ PM Express, he stated that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, nothing would prevent the AG from speaking at the event.

Regarding the GBA’s statement criticising the AG’s comments following the case verdict, Mr Tuah Yeboah expressed the need for further clarification on where the AG went wrong.

“If we had filed an appeal and in it, one of the grounds indicated that the judgement is perverse and cannot be supported by the evidence on record, would that be wrong?

“If you say a judgement is erroneous or illogical and lacks grounds for appeal, will that also be wrong?” he questioned.

He emphasised the right to state appeal grounds clearly and directly, noting, “With all due respect, the AG’s statement is a normal statement.”

Mr Tuah Yeboah clarified that the AG’s statement did not attack any judge but disagreed with the judgement.

“He never attacked the judges in any way,” he said, adding that the GBA should have discussed their concerns with Mr Dame to understand why they believed certain words were inappropriate.

He suggested that such a conversation would have explained the use of those words. The GBA publicly criticised the AG for describing the Appeals Court’s judgment as 'perverse,' 'grossly unfair,' and 'erroneous.'

GBA Public Relations Officer Saviour Kudze remarked that the Justice Minister’s choice of words was unwarranted.

He questioned, "Assuming the decisions were made in his favour, would he be using such words?"

According to him, "He [Attorney General] is the leader of the Bar. We shouldn’t expect him to be using such words."

"You could say you disagree with the verdict of the court and you will take steps. I think that is what everybody does."

"But an official leader using such words, we take exception to it,” he added on Tuesday.
