Mahama Pledges Establishment Of Military Barracks In 6 New Regions If NDC Wins 2024 Polls

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has outlined a security strategy aimed at addressing the needs of the six newly created regions in Ghana.

If elected in the 2024 elections, he pledges to establish military barracks in each of these regions, namely Savannah, North East, Bono East, Ahafo, Western North, and Oti.

Mr Mahama announced this commitment during a speech delivered in Gambaga, located in the North East Region, as part of his nationwide campaign tour titled "Building the Ghana We Want Tour" on Monday, April 15.

Acknowledging the pressing need for enhanced security infrastructure in the newly created regions, the former president emphasised the importance of proactive measures to safeguard the residents' safety and well-being.

He added that this promise is integral to the NDC's broader security strategy.

Deploying military personnel to these barracks, Mr Mahama said will bolster security presence, deter criminal activities, and provide a rapid response to emerging threats and incidents.

“We are going to prioritise the completion of abandoned projects. All six new regions are going to have military barracks so that the Ghana Army will be present in all the regions.

"In addition, we are going to form joint military and police anti-armed robbery squads and one of those squads will be here in the North East to fight armed robbery.”

“Because we want you to have peace and security to be able to go about your duties and we know that our 24-hour economy policy cannot work unless there is security and safety for everybody,” he said.
