To aid with the celebration of the Eid-ul Fitr, lithium mining company, Atlantic Lithium, on Monday, April 8, 2024, donated assorted food items to the five Muslim Communities in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.
The donation, which is projected to feed between 700-1000 indigenes, was a gesture of support for the needy and less privileged members of the Ghana Muslim Mission and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission within the municipality.
The delegation was led by Atlantic Lithium’s Florence Bossman-Ammah, Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager, and Dr. Millicent Aning-Agyei, Community Relations and Social Performance Manager, along with various other members of the company.
The donation items included; bags of rice, packs of Milo, crates of milk, gallons of oil, tinned tomatoes, boxes of spaghetti, bottles of water and assorted soft drinks.
Speaking to NewsAfricaGh's Adom Nanaa Odiasempa Savvy, the Communication and Corporate Affairs Manager, Florence Bossman-Ammah stated that Atlantic Lithium is a company focused on driving corporate social responsibility activities and, in this way, looks forward to actively contributing to the social-economic development of communities within the catchment area of the company’s Ewoyaa Lithium Project and Ghana as a whole.
“As a company, we understand and recognise the importance of giving back to society. We deem this donation exercise an opportunity to express our support for our Muslim brothers and sisters during Eid ul-Fitr and congratulate them for a successfully ending the Ramadan month. Atlantic Lithium is pleased to donate these food items to Muslims in our local community. We are glad we could inspire joy among the needy and less privileged.” The Community Relations and Social Performance Manager, Dr. Millicent Aning-Agyei, expressed that the municipality has warmly accepted Atlantic Lithium.
“We live in harmony with all members of the community, including frequently engaging with traditional leaders and stakeholders. We have discussions on the activities that we want to implement and take decisions in alignment with their best wishes. Atlantic Lithium has put in place many measures to benefit the local communities."
“For example, Atlantic Lithium has committed to a community development fund to help the development of the economy of our catchment area. Through the advancement of the Ewoyaa Project, the company expects to bring widespread employment and procurement opportunities to the local citizens, among numerous other beneficial interventions.
“This gesture is a reflection of our commitment to delivering a long-lasting positive impact to our local communities.”
Receiving the items presented, the leadership of the Ghana and Ahmadiyya Muslim Missions respectively indicated that, the donation was a step in the right direction.
Sariki Mama Nomabo, the Zongo Chief of Saltpond of the Ghana Muslim Mission thanked the management of Atlantic Lithium Limited for their support, adding that the donation has been made at the right time to aid the less privileged persons.
The Zonal Missionary for Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission - Saltpond Zone, Maulvi Abdul Hamid Ismail Baafi also called on the youth to portray the teachings of Islam in the upcoming general election.
