African Games 2023: Rose Yeboah Wins Gold In Women’s High Jump

Ghanaian high jumper, Rose Yeboah, increased Ghana's gold medal tally at the ongoing African Games after finishing top in the women's event on Tuesday evening.

Yeboah delighted the home crowd at the University of Ghana Stadium as she successfully defended her African Games champion title with a jump of 1.90 metres.

The 22-year-old, who won gold at the 2019 Games in Rabat, Morocco, outjumped her previous best of 1.84 metres five years ago to win the event once again.

Despite her outstanding achievement, Yeboah has yet to qualify for the Olympics. She tried the qualifying mark of 1.97 metres, but fell short on her third attempt at 1.94 metres, missing by 0.03 metres.

Yeboah was followed by Guinea jumper Balley Fatoumata, who jumped 1.81 metres to finish second and win a silver medal, and Algerian Darina Hadil Rezik, who jumped 1.78 metres to take bronze.

Her success now means Team Ghana has now amassed 10 gold medals at the ongoing games being staged in Accra with the total standing at 47.
