Woman In 50s Drowns At Mankessim Amissah Okye


A woman in her 50s has been retrieved from the Amissah Okye River at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of the Central Region.

The body of the deceased was found floating on the river on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 around 14:30GMT.

According to the three (3) eyewitnesses, who went to the Amissah Okye River to fetch water expressed shock over the development as the deceased has firmly held a branch of a tree.


A team made up of Police Personnel, Environmental Health Officers and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) went to the scene to retrieve the body with the help of the rescue team.

The deceased believed to be in her 50s was wearing a red short-sleeved T-shirt and black skirt was identified as Ama.


Some residents of Edumadze, a sub of Mankessim in an interview with NewsAfricaGh however, also expressed shock and a search conducted on the body does not suspect foul play.

The deceased has been sent to the Saltpond Government Hospital Morgue or preservation as the cause of her death is yet to be known.
